Batavia, Bethel-Tate, and Felicity are also winning

Glen Este’s varsity boys basketball squad has recently gained three victories and Batavia, Bethel-Tate, and Felicity also added a win apiece without a loss.

Glen Este

The Trojans won over Walnut Hills in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference East Division 54-43. The home team, in the thick of the division title chase, was on top at each stop 13-8, 24-15, and 40-30. Powering the Purple People’s offense were junior guard Corey Goedde with 12 points, senior forward Mike Bouley with 10 and senior guard Shane Seckmen shot in a couple of three-point field goals.

In another East Division duel, the Trojans took Anderson’s Redskins 69-46 despite an 11-5 first period deficit, GE led at the other rests 28-20 and 38-34. Seckman sank 14 points, junior forward Alex Fultz 13, Bouley 10 points and 15 rebounds, and senior guard Corey Goedde 10 points and a very impressive nine assists.

In a low-scoring match, Glen Este downed Loveland 40-27 in the Fort Ancient East. Bouley was the Purple and White leader with 19 points and 13 rebounds and Goedde made another seven assists.

Batavia

The Bulldogs skimmed by Blanchester on the winners’ floor in the Southern Buckeye Conference National Division. The Bulldogs held sway all the way 16-12, 28-18, and 36-26. Junior guard Dwayne Smith made 14 points and junior forward Dave Pelphrey added 11 to lead the winning offense.

Bethel-Tate

The Fighting Tigers outscored Williamsburg 67-61 on the victors hardwood in a non-division game of the Southern Buckeye. The home boys were ahead at the first two breaks 20-17, 38-35, and the tally was tied at 47 after three periods of play. Tyler Bullock, senior forward, poured in 32 points and Garrett Lang, senior guard, 10 to top the Tigers’ scoring. Leading the Wildcats were Elliot Young, senior guard-forward, with 23 and Matt Richardson, senior forward, contributing 10. Both made a trio of three-pointers.

Felicity

The Cardinals claimed New Richmond as a victim 61-56 in Felicity in a Southern Buckeye non-division fray. The Red and White was ahead throughout 12-9, 34-30, and 50-38. Many players netted double digits. For Felicity, junior guard Jake Fry had 15 points (including three three-pointers), senior forward Matt O’Brien 13, senior center Kyle Helton 11, and senior forward Dylan Ferris 10. For the Lions, junior forward Chris Turner made 14 points (including two threes), senior forward Shane Campbell 12, junior guard Nick Hill 12 (two threes), and senior forward Joey McCabe 10 (two threes).

Milford

The Eagles are among the leaders of the Fort Ancient East title race and helped their cause with a 63-46 triumph over Turpin at home. The Clermont countians spotted the Spartans an 8-4 first quarter lead and it was tied at 19-both before the Red and White led 42-34 after three periods of play. Senior guard Baker made 19 points to pace the victors, senior guard Jess Stankeveh contributed 13, and senior guard Callan Hughes 10.

Wilmington was the next division win 64-58. The visiting Milford squad was ahead 17-11 and 26-24 after the first two rests and the host Hurricanes led 43-27 before a 21-power surge in the last stanza earned the Clermont countians the win. Scoring leaders for the Eagles were Zach Baker, senior guard, with 22, Nick Hittner, senior forward with 15, and Stankeveh with 13.

Loveland slowed Milford down to earn a 42-37 division decision in Milford. After an 8-both first frame, the Red and White led 14-13 at the half before the Tigers regained the advantage at 34-26 going into the last eight minutes of play. Junior forward Robert Overbekk’s 10 points paced Milford’s offensive output.

Goshen

The Warriors won a non-division dual over East Clinton 68-46 in Lees Creek. Five of the Warriors sank twin figures to lead the visitors to leads of 19-14, 39-25, and 53-38 at each rest. Senior guard Jamie Ashcraft made 15 points, senior guard Nick Wake 14, senior guard Anthony Voto 12, senior center Tyler Hicks 11, and senior center Derek Koch 10.

The Warriors lost at Hughes 46-42 in non-league play. The Big Red led after the first two

stops 10-9 and 25-23 before the Red and Gray held sway 35-31 going into the closing quarter. Voto and Koch sank 15 and 13 points, respectively, for the Clermont countians.

Amelia

The Barons were done in in the barony by East Clinton 47-45 despite owning leads of 16-10 and 27-25 after the first two frames. The Astros led 39-31 after the third period. Kevin Morse, senior forward, made 14 points and Trevor Simon, freshman guard, 13 (including three threes) to lead the Blue and White’s offense.
