The Ohio Fair Managers Association, an organization representing 94 county and independent fairs, awarded the Clermont County Fair first place for the 2010 Fair Book cover at the Fair Managers Convention, which was held Jan. 6-9.

The state divides the fairs into large, medium, and small.Clermont falls into the medium category.

The cover was designed by Jon Carpenter of Williamsburg as the result of a contest to design the cover which the fair book committee sponsored.

Last year’s fair theme was “Celebrate the Past and See the Future.”The winning fair book cover featured two photos – a black and white photo of the fairgrounds from around the turn of the century and also a very modern and up to date one.

The committee which decided on the theme, chose the winner, and put together the fair book consisted of Co-Chairs Dan Hodges and Bea Faul, Carl and Jan Schoellman, and Kay Wilmers.

“As soon as we saw it, it stuck out,” Dan Hodges said. “It said everything we wanted to say.”

Carpenter’s work was chosen over several other entries and won $50, which he donated to his children’s 4-H club.Obviously, the state organization agreed with the local committee’s choice.Details about entering this year’s contest to design the fair cover will be made available in March.

The Ohio Fair Managers Association also awarded the Clermont County Fair second place on their website home page. The website is designed and maintained by the fair’s office manager, Jan Schoellman.
