Nick Simpson, Clermont Northeastern senior 112-pound wrestler, achieved the 100th victory of his outstanding four-year varsity career with a victory over a Batavia Bulldog in a three-squad showdown that took place at Amelia in a battle among the grappling gladiators of Rockets, Bulldogs, and Barons.

For the season, Simpson has been victorious in all 19 of his matches and this includes earning the recognition of being the Most Valuable Wrestler at the Bob Guy Invitational that took place at Williamsburg High School.

Amelia

The Barons have been very busy recently.

The Blue and White defeated Blanchester’s Wildcats 39-22 and were nipped by Withrow’s Tigers 40-33 in a triangular-meet.

Andy Clolinger (112 and 119 pounds) and Tyler Scharf (140) won both of their matches. Winning a match apiece were Iqbal Basha (112), Chad Farmer (125), Dylan Watkins 130, James Sayers (135), Marty Chriswell (145), Matt Mays (152), Joey Thompson 160, Victor Anderson 189, Marc McDonald 215, Derrick Hopper (215), Naeem Shalash (285). Thompson’s triumph was by a 22-second pin.

In another three-team showdown, this one among Southern Buckeye Conference teams, the Blue and White beat Clermont Northeastern 46-24 and lost to Batavia 54-24. Winning two for Amelia were Clolinger (119), Farmer (125), Thompson (152), and McDonald (285). Clolinger and Thompson were two-pin winners. Winning out over CNE were Scharf (140), Chriswell (145), Nick Pangallo (171), and Anderson (189).

Bellbrook and Talawanda beat the Barons 64-9 and 50-27, respectively. McDonald (285) won twice by pin. Singularly triumphant were Clolinger (112), Watkins (135), Thompson (152), and Anderson (189).

Milford

The Eagles were whipped by Princeton’s Vikings 36-21 and Lakota East’s Thunderhawks 63-6 in a three-team tangle. Alex Weigel (152) and Terry Norton (285) earned two victories each and Cody Reel (160) downed a Viking.

Goshen

The Warriors competed at the Brecksville Invitational. Two of the Red and Gray placed. Chaz Gresham (189) was runner-up and Austin Arnold (215) was seventh.

New Richmond

The Lions lost to Ryle (Ky.) 53-15. The triumphant uniformed in Red and Black were Cody Gabelman (125), Ryan Zawacki (145), and J. R. Forsee (182).

Williamsburg

The Wildcats were ninth among the 12 squads that competed in the Norwood High School Adam Cox Memorial Invitational Tournament. Elders’ Panthers “B” team was the champion with 216 points and ‘Burg earned 60 points. Jordan Smith (285) was the Clermont Countian’s placer achieving second place.
