Clermont Northeastern, Milford, and Glen Este have been playing most successfully in recent Clermont County high school boys basketball action.

Clermont Northeastern

The Rockets remain in the midst of the race in the Southern Buckeye Conference American Division. In recent action, Northeastern won a battle for the top of the American Division race by edging Goshen 49-46, in overtime, in the Warriors’ village. The Blue and Gold led after the first three intermissions 15-5, 22-14, and 29-27 before the Red and Gray fought back to knot the score at 38-both to send the game into OT. Josh Hogue, senior guard and forward, topped the CNE offense with 16 points including making three three-pointers, Ryan Mummert, senior forward, made 11 points and Brandon Coon, senior guard, made 10.

Warriors’ senior guard Anthony Voto sank 16 points to lead the hosts’ scoring and senior guard Nick Wake made 11 including a trio of three-pointers.

The boys from Owensville and Newtonsville were taken into overtime before overcoming Bethel-Tate 59-53 in double overtime. In this Southern Buckeye American bout, the host Blue and White led after the first three periods 14-8, 24-20, and 32-29 before the Fighting Tigers tied it at 40 and 46 at the next two intermissions. Jake Hogue, senior forward and center, powered the Northeastern scoring with 18 points and Mummert contributed 15. For the Red and Gray, Tyler Bullock dropped in 17 points, Matt Small 13 (including a trey of treys), and Lang 10.

Milford

The Eagles won a defensive struggle over Glen Este 50-37. The hosts led at each halt of this Fort Ancient Valley Conference East Division battle 9-6, 22-16, and 36-26. Nick Hittner, senior forward, scored the most for the Eagles with 15 points and Zachary Baker, senior guard, added 10. Sharing the Trojans’ scoring leadership with 10 points apiece were junior guard Corey Goedde and junior forward Alex Fultz.

Anderson’s Redskins were overcome on their own floor by the Red and White 64-52 in another Fort Ancient Valley East encounter. The Clermont countians were in control throughout 16-13, 25-22, and 43-31. Four of the Milford stars stood out with twin digit scoring – Baker 20 points, junior forward Robert Overbeck 14, senior guard Jess Stankeveh 12, and senior guard Callan Hughes 10.

Mason hung a loss on the Red and White 53-40 in a non-conference clash on the winners’ hardwood. The Comets were in the forefront at every break 14-8, 29-19, and 41-29. Baker tossed in 16 points and Overbeck 11. Hughes and Hittner stole the ball from the enemy four and three times, respectively.

Glen Este

The Trojans walloped Western Brown in non-league competition 81-50. The hosts were ahead at each break 26-8, 43-24, and 60-34. The Purple and White featured very balanced scoring with five standouts netting double digits – Fultz 13, Goedde 13, senior forward Mike Bouley 12, sophomore forward Macon Overcast 11, and senior guard Shane Seckman 10.

In a 64-58 home triumph over Turpin’s Spartans, the Trojans trailed 14-13 after the first eight minutes, but took over at the other rests 25-18 and 43-36. Pacing the Purple People’s scoring was Fultz with 16, Seckman 15, and Goedde 13. This was an East Division clash of the Fort Ancient Valley Conference.

Bethel-Tate

The Tigers won out over host Amelia 60-52 in a Southern Buckeye American Division duel. The Barons were in the lead 17-15 after the first period, but the Red and Gray took over to lead 33-31 and 44-40 at the end of the next two rounds. Senior forward Tyler Bullock threw in 21 points, senior guard Garrett Lang 19, and junior guard Matt Small 12 for the winners and senior forward Kevin Morse 19 and senior forward Tanner Owens 10 for the losers.

Purcell Marian pounded the Tigers 67-52 in a non-league fray. The home boys led Bethel-Tate after each rest 17-6, 30-18, and 47-38. Dennis Sandker, senior forward, powered the Clermont countians’ offense with 13 points and Lang chipped in with another 11.

Goshen

The Warriors won a non-conference confrontation over the visiting Little Miami Panthers 53-44. Following an 11-both first quarter, the host Green and Gold led 22-21 at the half before the Clermont countians forged ahead to stay 34-28 after three stanzas of action. Wake fired in 22 points including three three-pointers and Voto contributed 16 more points for the winning cause.

Felicity

The Cardinals broke even in a tournament hosted by Maysville (Ky.) High School.

The Ohioans overpowered St. Patrick (Ky.) in an offensive showcase 92-84. The Cardinals were in command throughout 26-14, 50-29, and 70-44. The Red and White’s senior forward Matt O’Brien was red hot scorching the nets for 36 points, teammates Dylan Farris, senior forward, added 14, Trevor Shouse, junior guard, 13, and Jake Fry, junior guard, 12.

The Red and White was routed by Ripley 76-50 as the Blue Jays held away all the way 20-13, 36-27, and 55-46. Senior center Kyle Helton topped the Cards’ scoring with 23 points, O’Brian made 16, and Farris 11.

In a Southern Buckeye National tilt, Georgetown’s G-Men won out 80-59 owning period leads of 20-19, 41-33, and 65-48. For Felicity, Shouse made 19 points, Helton 18, and O’Brien 13.

Batavia

The Bulldogs were skimmed by Deer Park on the Wildcats’ court 36-35. The Green and White led 9-4 after the first eight minutes of this non-conference game, the home boys took over at halftime 28-17, before the Clermont countians went on top 28-24 after three quarters of action. Senior center Luke Bradburns’ 12 points paced the Batavia scoring for the team that lost on a shot with just four seconds remaining in the fray.

New Richmond

The Lions were outrun by the Broncos at Western Brown 64-28. The home squad led at each break 17-6, 34-11, and 52-20. Zak Ritter, senior guard and forward, topped the Red and Black attack with 11 points. This was a Southern Buckeye American contest.

Amelia

The Barons were upended by Western Brown 57-48 in Mt. Orab. The Broncos gradually pulled away during each period of this Southern Buckeye Conference American Division clash 16-14, 36-28, and 47-37. Topping the Blue and White, offensively, were Owens with 23 points (including a trio of three-point field goals) and Morse with 11.
