The pair of Clermont County wrestling squads in the competition turned in respectable efforts at the Annual Bob Guy Invitational that took place at Williamsburg High School.

The tourney is named in honor of the most successful wrestling coach in Williamsburg High School history.

The most valuable wrestler of the meet was Clermont Northeastern senior Nick Simpson who was weight class champion at 112-pounds.

The host Wildcats had two individual weight class champions in Roger Thornberry at 103-pounds and Jordan Smith at 285.

North College Hill (NCH) won the event with 257 points, Greenfield McClain (GM) had 193, Loveland “B” (Love) 191.5, Clermont Northeastern (CNE) 179, Jackson (J) 176.5, Williamsburg (Wms) 157.5, Cincinnati Hills Christian (CHC) 118.5, Lockland (Loc) 85, East Clinton (EC) 42, and Indian Hill 0.

The Trojan victors were Mark Lowery (119), Caleb Prinz (145), Cory Burris (160), Travis Jones (189), and Kyle Turner (215) by pin, and Caleb Ervin (103), Josh Clift (125), and Blake Meyers (135) by major decision, and Drew Kearns (130) and Michael Kennedy (285) by decision, the latter’s in overtime. The New Richmond winners were Cory English (152) by pin and Austin Skaggs (119), Robbie Lemar (140), and Kevin Reid (171) by decision.

Goshen turned in a very respectable effort at the Xenia Invitational. The Warriors finished third among the 12 competing squads.

T. J. Settles (285) was Goshen’s individual weight class champion. Gaining second place were Billy Combs (125), Aaron Walker (145), Brian Robertson (160), Anthony Carome (171), and Austin Arnold (215). Placing third were Sterling Briggs (119), Conner Rahm (140), and Mike Work.

Chaz Gresham (189), a junior, competed in the Iron Man Tournament at Walsh Jesuit High School, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, in the Cleveland area. Goshen coach Dallas Rise described this tournament as one of the best in Ohio. Rise was attempting to give Gresham a very tough level of competition. He earned a respectable fourth place.

The Red and Gray, in a tri bout, lost to Batavia 36-30 and Reading 38-34. Double winners for the Warriors versus Batavia were Briggs (119), Combs (125), Rahm (140), Walker (145), Robertson (160), Gresham (189), Arnold (215), and Settles (285). Combs (125), Walker (145), Gresham (189), and Arnold (215) downed the Blue Devils.

Batavia split a triangular meet. The Bulldogs nipped Goshen 36-30 and lost to Reading 68-9.

Versus St. Xavier, the Eagle winners were Gage House (103) and Terry Norton (285) by pin and Kenneth Latchford (125) by decision.

Against Sycamore, the winners in Red and White were Jimmy Shamblin (140) by pin and William Dentino (135) by decision.

Bethel-Tate and Amelia competed in the 17-squad Edgewood Invitational. The Tigers were ninth with 156 points and the Barons were 14th with 81.5. Piqua’s Indians was the winning team with 268.5 points.

The five-time victors in Red and Black were Skaggs (119), Cody Gabelman (125), Ryan Zawacky (152), and J. R. Forsee (285).
