Bethel-Tate High School has selected its newest class of inductees into its sports hall of fame.

The annual induction ceremony will place the night the Tigers host Amelia’s Barons in boys basketball, Saturday Feb. 12.

The Class of 2011 includes a total of seven athletes and contributors, and one coach.

Jan Lipps and Don Shebesta (both Bethel-Tate High class of 1955) were Clermont County League (CCL) all-stars in basketball and were regarded as a tremendous one-two threat to the opposition throughout their varsity cage careers. Basketball was the only sport in the county league during this time period to be honored with its own all-star squad.

George Tolin (class of 1963) was a two-time CCL football all-star center. For many years after graduation he served as his alma mater’s varsity football statistician. He earned hall of fame recognition as both an athlete and a contributor.

Becky Meadors (class of 1981) was a three-time CCL basketball all-star and is among the Tiger leaders in career scoring and rebounding. She was also a Class AA all-city selection.

Bill Thompson (class of 1984) is among the Bethel-Tate football career leaders in scoring, rushing, and total offense on the gridiron where he earned CCL all-star status. He was a two-time CCL wrestling champion and a state qualifier.

Matt Hill (class of 1990) was a Southern Buckeye Conference all-star in soccer and tennis and he also lettered in basketball. At Union College he played in that school’s divisional level of its national tennis championship tournament.

Bruce Hrycyk is regarded by many as the most successful wrestling coach in Clermont County sports history. His Tiger teams won 10 consecutive Clermont County League championships. He coached many grapplers to the state championship tournament and one, Joey Calhoun, also a member of the BTHS Sports Hall, won a state crown. Hrycyk was also a successful head football coach and served for some years as the BTHS athletic director.
