Just days before Cheyenne Ward was to enter the second grade her life ended in a house fire in Jackson Township.

According to communications records the fire in the house on U.S. 50 where Cheyenne lived with her grandmother Stella Ward and her two older brothers broke out some time around 11 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26. The communications describe neighbors’ efforts to help Stella Ward off the roof after she climbed out a window.

When firefighters arrived on the scene the home was fully engulfed. They were told Cheyenne was still in the building and rushed in to retrieve her from her bedroom. By the time they got to her she was unresponsive and was rushed by Williamsburg EMS to the Clermont Northeastern campus when AirCare responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
