As March approaches following the snowiest February on record, fears of the Ohio River reaching flood stage are beginning to surface. Beth Nevel of the Ohio Emergency Management Association has been working with the National Weather Service to find good information about the possibility of flooding for the area.

“The National Weather Service admittedly stated that projections are heavily weighted with historical facts of flooding, but the historical data does not take into account the current conditions,” said Nevel.

The National Weather Service keeps tabs on the rate of melting snow, the possibility of more precipitation in the forecast and historical crests in the river.
