The possibility of a 2.9 mill police levy came closer to a reality at the Bethel Council meeting on Monday, Feb. 8 when council members approved an emergency resolution to put the levy on the May 4 ballot.

Police Chief Mark Planck asked council about getting a replacement levy put on the ballot during the council meeting Jan. 25. He stated that the current levy applied to tax years 2005 to 2009 and noted that collections of the levy were due to end in the first half of 2011.

Both the Safety and Finance Committees met earlier this month to discuss the possibility of a levy replacement and representatives of both committees came to the meeting on Feb. 8 with recommendations to put it on the ballot.
