More than 200 residents of the Clermont Northeastern School District met in the Early Childhood Education Center for a special school board meeting on Monday, Jan. 18. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the 3 mill tax increase approved by the board at a meeting Dec. 17, 2009.

Voting for the inside millage was the last thing the board did before two members stepped down at the end of the year. Members Cindy Huxel and Carl Hoerth are no longer serving on the CNE school board. Newly elected board members Danny Ilhardt and David Pennington voiced concerns about the inside millage after hearing comments and questions from many residents during the three hour meeting.

At the conclusion of the meeting Ilhardt made a motion that the board rescind the vote for inside millage. Pennington seconded the motion. With two votes to rescind and votes by both board president Patty Spencer and member Jayne Mummert against rescinding, the final vote came from board member Mike Freeman. He abstained from voting. The failure of the board to have a majority vote for the motion to rescind resulted in the motion failing. The previous vote for inside millage stands.
