Milford High School Principal Ray Bauer, 63, of Mason, collapsed after exercising and died Saturday, Aug. 29.

According to superintendent Robert Farrell, the high school assistant principals were busy on Sunday, Aug. 30, contacting each member of the faculty to notify them of his death. The high school staff members met at the school on Sunday evening to make plans for Monday. A crisis intervention team was available for high school students on Monday, Aug. 31.

Farrell noted that Bauer had always placed the students first. He said that Bauer made himself available to the students and felt that his job as principal was about the kids.

“I’ve never seen a principal have such a personal connection with his students, especially in a school the size of Milford,” said Farrell. “At graduation this year, he had something nice to say and a hug for each student. He was amazing.”
