During the Tuesday, July 28, meeting of the Union Township Board of Trustees, it was evident that the township’s belt was being tightened.

After the board has explored every option to stay within its budget and reduce spending in all departments there is still a need to ask the voters to help. The board approved a resolution to be presented to the board of elections declaring the necessity of an additional tax.

The board is asking for an additional 2.95 mills for safety services provided by both the fire and police departments in Union Township. If passed, the levy will provide $3 million but still not enough to avoid layoffs.
