A senior housing complex is planned for an eight-acre site near the spot where Ezekiel Dimmitt built the first cabin in Batavia in 1797. On Wednesday, June 10, the public was invited to a special meeting at Batavia village offices for an unveiling of the plans for the project.

Initial plans for the project were called Batavia Senior Housing, but a contest was held to give the project a name and Penny Balzhiser came up with the name Dimmitt Woods in honor of Ezekiel Dimmitt. At age 23, Dimmitt purchased the land for his 16 by 16-foot cabin for $2.50 per acre.

Clermont County Senior Services Director George Brown welcomed a crowd of more than 50 people to the event and introduced Clermont County Historian Rick Crawford.
