The Ohio State Highway Patrol Batavia Post was the first post in Ohio to test the Intoxilyzer 8000, the machine was first used on Saturday, May 2. The new machine is designed to test the breath of drivers suspected of operating a motor vehicle under the influence and is currently used with the consent of the driver.

According to Sgt. Kevin Long, of the Batavia Post, the post has received two machines. One will be permanently located at the post and the other is a portable machine which will be used at OVI checkpoints.

“We used the machine once during the weekend,” said Sgt. Long. “Our checkpoint was set up on state Route 125 in Union Township in Clermont County. One driver was arrested but refused the test, two other drivers were brought to the post and only one of them was tested.”
