During the Amelia Village Council meeting held on Monday, March 16, the recreation commission chair Derrick Campbell reported that phase two was complete for the skate park and that the exercise zone was now ready for assembly in Spencer Shank Park.

“The commission also discussed our application for a Nature Works Grant with regard to the ball field in Spencer Shank Park,” said Campbell. “After reviewing, and on the recommendation of Village Administrator Mark Menz, the commission decided to table the idea of pursuing the grant. The grant stipulates that the land will always be used for recreational purposes only and we can’t guarantee that.”

An issue to dissolve the Village of Amelia is slated for the May 5 ballot. If voters approve the issue, the village residents will become township residents of either Pierce Township or Batavia Township. The dividing line will be state route 125, with those living north being absorbed into Batavia Township and those to the south becoming Pierce Township residents.
