The American Cancer Society has announced plans for the Second Annual Relay for Life of Milford.

The event is scheduled for 3 p.m. – 9 a.m. Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31, at Milford High School.

The Relay for Life is celebrating 25 years in 2009. The event began in the mid 1980s when Dr. Gordy Klatt, of Tacoma, Wash., walked, jogged and ran around a track for 24 hours to raise money for his local American Cancer Society. The Relay for Life now takes place in 5,000 communities in the United States and in 19 other countries around the world. More than 3.5 million people participate in the event and over the years have raised more than $3 billion to fund the American Cancer Society’s mission.
