Amelia is raising questions concerning the validity of some of the signatures on the petition calling for a village dissolution measure to be put on the Nov. 4 ballot.

Amelia Mayor Leroy Ellington, who received the dissolution petition from the newly-formed group Amelia Residents For Fiscal Responsibility at the Aug. 18 council meeting, said that there are about 10 pages that have questionable signatures.

“It appears that there are not enough valid signatures,” the mayor said.

Of the 458 signatures that were obtained to have the dissolution measure placed on the ballot (only 316 registered voters are required), about 189 are being questioned by a village council committee, made up of council members Tim Rosser, Derrick Campbell, and vice-mayor Molly Parker, who were unofficially tasked by the mayor to review them.
