Amelia Residents For Fiscal Responsibility, a group of Amelia residents wishing to dissolve the 108-year old village, submitted a dissolution petition with more than 450 signatures to village council Aug. 18.

The 20-member tax opposition group was formed over a proposed one percent earned income tax that village council has been considering enacting over the past few months.

Residents For Fiscal Responsibility member Pam Barker submitted to council the proposed surrender of their corporate powers petition before a packed audience Monday night; the 468 signatures were the result of a door-to-door campaign.

The newly-formed earned income tax opposition group only needed 300 signatures by Aug. 21 to have the measure placed on the Nov. 4 ballot.
