The Kramer Myers Insurance Company in Batavia is collecting food and money for the YWCA food pantry.

The employees and the thousands of customers at the 48-year-old company have already generously donated a full barrel of canned goods and almost $170 in cash.

Co-owner Jerry Werring said that he was approached with the idea by Kramer Myers customer insurance representative Sue Ruehrwein about the food collection, whereupon he immediately agreed to commence with the food drive initiative.

“We want to help those in need,” Werring said. “We also want to encourage other businesses that have the means to pick up the ball and run with it.”

Ruehrwein, who has worked for the company for the last four years, has been hearing recently how the local food banks are rapidly becoming depleted, and how this shortage of food is having a very real impact on needy families who rely upon services like the YWCA food pantry every day.
