The Goshen Township Board of Trustees has unanimously approved a proposed safety services levy.

The 4.5 mill levy, which was approved by the trustees in a special meeting May 17, is needed to update the aging, and in some cased outdated, equipment, as well as to purchase new equipment for the township’s fire and emergency medical services department, said Goshen Township communications manager Mandy Storer.

“Goshen Township is proud of its growing population,” Storer said. “Despite the growing population, the police, fire, and EMS departments have not grown along with the population. The funds are needed right now in order to continue to ensure a safe and secure Goshen Township.”

If passed, the proposed 4.5 mill levy, which would cost the $100,000 home owner about $.34 cents a day, would generate an estimated $1,082,000 per year.
