The village of Bethel has new crosswalk signs.

The old signs, which were rusted, had faded over time, and were very difficult to see, have now been replaced with newer, shinier signs. They have a “hurt-your-eyes” green color, said Bethel police chief John Wallace.

“It’s about safety,” the chief said. “Some people do not realize that there are even many crosswalks through the village because of the traffic signals. We are trying to push this into the front of people’s minds.”

Bethel village council received an update on the sign replacement from the police chief at its regular meeting May 27.
