Ford Motor’s Batavia Transmission plant, which was scheduled to halt production and close May 30, will now stay open until the end of June or early July.
The extension announcement, which was made in Clermont County last week, is temporarily some very good news for the plant’s more than 780 employees.
Clermont County communications director Kathy Lehr said that county officials are remaining optimistic about the chances of finding another business interested in utilizing the plant sometime in the future when it finally closes.
The 27-year-old Ford plant, which opened in 1981, has 1.8 million square feet of production space.
Ford announced earlier in the year that the plant would close at the end of May; that closing has now been delayed for another month.
