A 24-hour visitation for fallen soldier Matt Maupin will be held at the Union Township Civic Center April 26 and his funeral will take place at the Great American BallPark the following day.

The remains of the Union Township native, which are still being examined by Army officials in Maryland to determine when and how he was killed, were found in Iraq March 20 after many tips and a meticulous search.

The Army, which has told grieving parents Keith and Carolyn Maupin that they never gave up the search for their son, discovered Maupin from piecing together years of information and tips received from Sunnis in northwestern Iraq.

Maupin, then 20, was captured in 2004 and was listed as captured for almost four years until his parents found out April 5 that his remains had been found in an agricultural area 15 miles northwest of where he was captured in Baghdad.
