Amelia mayor Leroy Ellington is making good on his campaign promise to reconnect the village residents to its representative government.

“When I began talking to village residents, I began to sense and feel a very real disconnect between our village government and the citizens,” Ellington said at the first Amelia Town Hall meeting. “So I made it a platform on which I campaigned.”

The town hall meeting, held at the Amelia Public Library March 31, attracted more than 65 people and included introductions and reports from all elected and appointed officials, the Amelia Police Department, the Union Township Fire Department, and many different committees.

“The town hall is all about bringing the message to people that live here that there is an opportunity to get involved here,” the mayor said. ” And ‘Get Connected Amelia’ has become my mission.”

Therefore, several plans and initiatives are in the works this year to accomplish this “reconnect,” as the mayor calls it.
