The New Richmond Rivertown IGA donated $1,000 worth of groceries to the New Richmond Food Pantry March 17.

“This is like an answered prayer,” said food pantry representative Sonia Kroger. “This will help and mean so much to our clientele - especially around Easter time.”

The New Richmond IGA, an Independent Grocer’s Association member, recently won a national contest sponsored by the Nash Finch Distribution Company; they won a $1,000 first place prize for decorating the store, offering special discount sale prices, and customer appreciation initiatives.

“We won a national prize and took it upon ourselves to give it back locally,” said IGA store owner Linda Singleton-Taylor. “We know of the need for food so we, and it was a solid group effort, thought that a $1,000 worth of groceries to the food pantry would be the right thing to do.”
