Two new school buildings may be in the Batavia Local School District’s future, and district officials and residents have begun examining construction options.

The Ohio School Facilities Commission, the state agency which helps local school districts fund, plan, design, build and renovate schools, last year conducted an assessment of Batavia’s school buildings and presented its findings to the district.

“The Ohio School Facilities Commission created a master plan for the district,” Batavia Superintendent Barbara Bradley said. “They tell you what the possibilities are, according to the data they receive.”

The master plan includes state funding of 54 percent of the cost of constructing a new elementary and a new middle school, and renovations at the high school. The roughly $26 million in state funding is available from the OSFC only if the district chooses to construct new buildings, and would not be available to renovate the elementary and middle schools.
