Statistically, shopping and spending time with friends may seem more her style, but Williamsburg teen Amber Keeton takes life in broader strokes.

A junior at Williamsburg High School, Keeton has developed a more intricate pastime, as subtle as light and shadow, that depicts with an artist’s eye what truly interests her. A sampling of her artistic work is now on display at the Riverside Coffee Mill in Batavia.

“I’ve been in this (art) forever, since I was little,” said Keeton. “I’ve been doing it more professionally since the ninth grade. I like old Hollywood stuff, and like doing work in black and white. Charcoal is my favorite medium.”

Patrons of the coffee shop now sip their tea and coffee under the watchful eyes of Marilyn Monroe and Edward Scissorhands. Desert landscapes adorn the walls, which have become a showcase for artists in the county.
