Clermont County currently has about 5,000 tons of salt on hand to deal with any snowy weather that may come our way, and reserves the capacity to get a whole lot more if necessary, said Clermont County Engineer’s Office deputy of operations Rob Alfieri.

“We generally keep about 5,000 tons of salt on hand,” said Alfieri. “Typically, we can use anywhere from 5,000 tons, and I’ve seen it go as high as 15,000 tons.”

The county, like many other municipalities, has joined a giant buying group, helping to take the sting out of buying salt. Alfieri said that big salt sellers make an offer to the group, which can keep the price low.

“We’re members of the Swap 4G program, which is the Southwest Ohio Purchaser’s Group,” said Alfieri. “Actually, there are probably over 100 municipalities in the buying group. Several of the major salt vendors put out bids for them. We pick the best price.”
