Batavia Township residents will soon be able to enjoy a picnic no matter what the weather is. A picnic shelter is scheduled to be finished and ready for use in early November in the Batavia Township park.

Batavia Township Administrator Rex Parsons said that the shelter project was virtually free for the township.

“The township is excited to get it up, it should be finished in a week,” said Parsons. “This is all covered by the grant, except for purchasing a building permit and some ground preparation. The township is thankful to get the grant and looks forward to applying for more grants in the future.”

The process began several months ago when the township applied for and received a grant which covered nearly everything for the construction, which was bid out and awarded to Jerry Allen and Associates Construction.
