Three candidates will compete for the position of Union Township Trustee in November when the seat vacated by former trustee Doug Walker is up for reelection.

Matt Beamer, who was appointed by the board of trustees to fill the seat, is seeking to remain a trustee, while challengers Cliff Johnson II and Mike Vaught are seeking to begin their service as a trustee.

Beamer, a financial planner, is a lifelong resident of the township and a current trustee. A former member of the board of zoning appeals and land use committee, Beamer said that he has taken an active role and interest in the township for years, even before his appointment to the board of trustees.

“For many years before I was appointed, I attended a majority of the monthly trustee meetings,” said Beamer. “That way I got used to how they do things, how they operate. I got to know the department heads through the years and get a feel for the community and citizens who attended the meetings.”
