A Cincinnati man is dead after a mysterious roadway accident which occurred early Tuesday morning in Union Township.

Clay Barker died as a result of injuries stemming from a one-car accident in which the car he was driving slammed into a utility pole while trying to flee the police.

“At approximately 4:42, the officers observed a transformer explosion on McMann Road,” said Lt. Scott Gaviglia with the Union Township Police. “When they arrived at the scene of Ferris Road and McMann Road, they observed a vehicle into a telephone pole, and immediately summoned emergency medical personnel. However, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.”

According to Lt. Gaviglia, officers first noticed Baker’s vehicle about two minutes before the accident which caused his death. The vehicle was allegedly traveling erratically, swerving from lane to lane and traveling on the wrong side of the road. However, when the police tried to stop the erratic driving, Baker allegedly fled, which resulted in his death and the serious injury of two unidentified minor female passengers.
