The Clermont County Humane Society will be celebrating a golden year. This marks the 50th year of operation for the society, which seeks to find homes for suitable lost pets and reduce the amount of stray dogs and cats in the county.

“This is our 50th anniversary year, so we’ll be celebrating that with an open house,” said board member and volunteer organizer Sandee Palazzolo. “We’ll be giving tours of the kennels, and will have a big adopt-a-thon that day.”

The anniversary will be observed on Aug. 18 with tours, an adoption drive and other festivities, which will be located in the shelter’s parking lot.

“Mainly, we’re trying to call attention to our animal shelter in Clermont County,” said Palazzolo. “We’ll have a small-town style festival with game booths for the children. There will be food and face painting. There will be minimal prices, if you make a donation you get tickets. The open house is free, and the adopt-a-thon is basically whatever price you would pay to adopt the animals.”
