For what is believed to be a first, Batavia High School has hosted its own varsity boys and girls track and field invitational.

Not even the Class A state boys champion team of 1966 or the runners-up teams of 1964 and 1965 hosted their own invite. At the time, the Bulldogs were relegated to just practicing at times on the sidewalks on Broadway and other surrounding streets in the village and the school yard.

The Clermont County League track and field championships took place on the cinder track at Milford High School. Today, it is a beautiful all-weather track facility located on the exact same site as the old cinder track last used with the CCL championship meet of 1968 that was won by Goshen and Amelia was the runner-up. Baron senior Kurt Franke was the top scorer.

Williamsburg’s boys turned in the best team performance for a county squad at the 2007 Batavia Invite by finishing second. The Wildcat girls led the distaff division with a fourth place finish.

There was no pole vault competition.
