Despite a record of 1-10 overall and 0-5 in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference, Amelia’s varsity girls tennis team displayed quality play to earn runner-up in their flight of the Coaches’ Classic.

“I am very pleased and very proud,” said coach Jan Peach. “We’re in a league with pretty tough teams. In the tournament we played teams of our own caliber and speed and we showed we can play well with them. The two doubles teams were in it to the end. . .

“We’ve had to adjust to fill in a lot of spotsthis year. Three girls moved up from the JV,” said Peach.

“I think the future is good. With this year’s experience under our belt we should be better. We are going to have to restaff the doubles, though.”
