The athletic department of Williamsburg High School will soon be accepting nominations for its athletic hall of fame.

The nomination process begins Sept. 4 and will continue through Oct. 23. Nomination forms will be available at all home fall sports activities or can be obtained by contacting high school athletic director Ron Ogden.

A recognition event will take place Jan. 26, 2007, during the Wildcats’ home boys basketball game against Goshen. On Jan. 27, a reception and induction ceremony will take place. The cost of this event is $10 per person or $100 per table. A silent auction will also take place.

“The purpose of the hall of fame is to recognize and honor outstanding athletes and coaches who contributed to the athletic program of Williamsburg High School,” said Ogden.

Qualifications for eligibilty include: the nominees must have varsity letters in one sport for four years or two sports or more for two years or more each, first team all-league honors for at least two seasons total in any one of the sports in which the athlete participated, first or second team all-city or all-district honors for at least two years in at least one sport in which the athlete participated, exemplary representation of the school and the community in all athletic-related endeavors or in post-graduation citizenship, successful completion of high school at Williamsburg at least five years prior to induction.

Qualifications for coaches include: must have coached one or more sports in which recognition as league coach of the year were garnered at least once, coached at least one league championship team, compiled an overall winning record as coach in at least one sport, represented the school and the community in exemplary manner in all athletic-related endeavors. Eligibility for coaches is immediate upon retirement or departure from the school system.

Other accomplishments will be considered to strengthen a candidates merits for membership: membership in the Clermont County Sports Hall of Fame; all-league, all-state, or all-American status; participation in all-star competitions; all-league player of the year; own or did own school, league, or county records; team most valuable player honors; serve as a team captain; achievements on the district, regional, and state levels; success in athletics on the collegiate, olympic, or professional level(s).
