At the Dec. 29 meeting of the Bethel Village Council, the governing body wrestled with what squeaky wheel was loudest, and in the end, the council voted with what the said was the wheel in most need of grease by deciding unanimously to sell the former Bethel Swim Club property.

Against the wishes of a handful of residents that very vocally, in turn, pleaded and demanded that the property remain in village hands and be rehabilitated into a public pool, the council made the unanimous choice to pursue selling it, for better or worse.

Shanna Seibert, daughter to Mayor David Simpson who no longer lives in the village, chastised the council throughout the meeting for not heeding the wishes of the residents present in the council chambers.
